Arizona Tax Credit Donations - Full Guide

Turn Your Taxes Into Something Meaningful

Arizona gives you a unique opportunity: instead of just paying your state taxes, you can redirect those dollars to causes you care about and receive a dollar-for-dollar tax credit.

This is not a deduction. This is a credit, meaning it directly reduces what you owe.

Available Arizona Tax Credits

You can contribute to all of the categories below in the same year:

1. Public School Tax Credit

Support extracurricular programs in Arizona public schools.

Examples: sports, arts, field trips, tutoring.

2. Qualified Charitable Organizations (QCO)

Arizona-certified charities helping low-income families, homeless services, food banks, and community support programs.

3. Qualified Foster Care Charitable Organizations (QFCO)

Charities specifically supporting foster children and foster families.

4. Private School Scholarships (STO)

Donate to School Tuition Organizations (STOs) providing private school scholarships.

Two credits:

  • Original STO - available to everyone.

  • Switcher STO - requires student eligibility, such as switching from public school or kindergarten entry.

Important Rules to Know

  • You can claim all categories in one year.

  • Deadline: April 15, or the tax filing deadline.

  • Contributions can be made January 1 through April 15 for the prior tax year.

  • Credits are nonrefundable.

  • Unused credits may carry forward up to 5 years.

  • Donations must go to approved organizations only.
